MU 1:0 Liverpool




Manchester United increased their Premiership lead to nine points after scoring a last-gasp winner to sink Liverpool. John O'Shea was the unlikely hero after he turned in Cristiano Ronaldo's free kick when it was uncharacteristically spilled by keeper Jose Manuel Reina.

The injury time winner was a sickener from Liverpool who had dominated the Anfield fixture. John Arne Riise and Peter Crouch went close while Dirk Kuyt missed out on a tap-in after being too slow to react to Craig Bellamy's cross.

United midfielder Paul Scholes was sent off late on after his attempt to punch Xavi Alonso. Victorious manager Sir Alex Ferguson said afterwards: "It was a fantastic result. We had a lot of narrow escapes and Liverpool upset our rhythm. They will feel very unlucky and they deserve to."
