Man United 3:0 Everton


Cristiano Ronaldo ensured Manchester United held on to pole position in the Premiership as he put his side on course for a 3-0 win against Everton. Ronaldo broke the deadlock just before half-time at Old Trafford and Patrice Evra and John O'Shea also scored as Sir Alex Ferguson's team bounced back from the disappointment of being held by their nearest title challengers Chelsea on Sunday.

United remain three points ahead of reigning champions Chelsea after Jose Mourinho's men kept up the pressure on the leaders with a 1-0 win at Bolton. Portugal international Ronaldo, playing up front rather than in his usual role on the right wing, was at the heart of all United's best moments and he sparked the move that led to his 39th minute goal.

His astute pass gave Michael Carrick a sight of goal but the midfielder's shot was blocked by Nuno Valente and Ronaldo picked up the rebound and drilled a shot past Richard Wright.

French left-back Evra increased United's lead in the 63rd minute as Everton, without a win at Old Trafford since 1992, succumbed to the home side's incessant pressure. O'Shea's close range finish in the 89th minute completed the rout.
