United slipped to their first Premiership defeat in eight games as Matthew Taylor’s strike and a Rio Ferdinand own-goal sealed victory for Portsmouth at Fratton Park. An off-colour first-half display from Sir Alex Ferguson’s side proved costly as the Reds could only muster a consolation goal John O'Shea in a dominant display after the interval.
