Cristiano Ronaldo is satisfied with the way he has played since joining Real Madrid last summer.
Expectations could hardly have been higher after the Portugal international moved from Manchester United for a world record-breaking transfer fee of £80million.
Real might finish the season without a major trophy after making a surprise early exit from the UEFA Champions League, while they also trail Barcelona by one point in the Primera Liga with four games to play.
But Ronaldo has reflected with pride on his own personal performances over the course of the campaign, despite spending a period on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
“I am very happy with my season at Real Madrid,” he told the Portuguese press.
“If I had not suffered the injury with a two-month gap this could have been my best year as a professional.
“In a league like Spain it is not easy to start with 20 goals and seven assists.
“After the injury against Marseille I missed 12 matches but with confidence and hard work I have returned to a good level.”

We are still alive |
Cristiano Ronaldo talked to several journalists that gathered at a publicity act also attended by Real Madrid Director of Institutional Relations Emilio Butragueño. After the press conference, the player participated in a clinic in which he had to defeat himself in a dribbling and speed trial. A video showed him tackling the course in just 10.49 seconds and he managed to do it again in just 9.33 seconds.
"We are still alive in La Liga. It will be hard to win the title, but we'll keep on trying to the very end. I have faith in our chances."
"It isn't difficult to play for the best team in the world. It is a great challenge for me. I wish to win many titles with Real Madrid. We are all very happy with the coach. I am personally delighted with my team-mates. I don't wish to play with other players, regardless of how talented they may be."
"Portugal has to prepare well. We are confident and anxious for the World Cup to start. It will be difficult to win, but not impossible."
"I was born as a fast runner, but I train very hard every day because I want to be even better. It is pointless to have certain qualities and characteristics if you don't train to exploit them."

“I am sure we are going to win” |
During today’s press conference, Cristiano Ronaldo said all bets are off when Real Madrid host Barcelona on Saturday.
“This may be the most important match of the season. Whoever wins will hold a slight advantage in the race for the league title, but there are still many matches to be played and we need to try to win all of them.”
“This may be the most important match of the season. Whoever wins will hold a slight advantage in the race for the league title, but there are still many matches to be played and we need to try to win all of them.”
“The season is winding down, so whoever wins on Saturday will have a little more confidence than the other team and the opportunity to draw a match. Both teams are very ambitious so no matter what happens we cannot give up. There are a lot of matches left and we have to fight to win every one of them.”
“I am taller and wider than Messi (laughs). He is having a great season and will now and forever be among the best players ever. But the coach and entire team also deserve credit. Messi does not play alone. He has great players by his side. I am working very hard, I am happy and I hope to continue feeling good. I will also be one of the best players around while I play here.”
“Real Madrid’s best asset is their ambition and Barcelona’s is their team spirit. We know how well they play and how difficult they are to beat, but we also have our artillery. We have a good chance of winning as long as we stay focused. I am sure we will play well. That said, I wouldn’t mind losing on Saturday as long as we win the league. What difference is there if we beat Barcelona and then lose the next two matches?”
“I respect Barcelona but I do not fear them. They have a very complete team. I will do my very best, like I do every weekend. I will try to score, assist and help my team in every way possible to beat Barcelona. I am not worried about a thing. I just want to do my best and make a difference. I think it will be a very even match that will be decided by small details. May the best team win. But I hope Real Madrid is the better team. I am sure we will come away with the win.”
“I expect a great atmosphere at the stadium. We feel much more confident when we have the support of our fans. I am sure they will be very excited and that they will help us a lot. The team is excited about the match and we are very confident. We believe in this match because it may just decide the winner of La Liga. We have very high aspirations.”

Real Madrid will be the best team of 2010 |
Cristiano Ronaldo sat down with Spanish sports daily Marca to discuss his first six months as a Madridista.
Champions League:
“Fans and players dream about winning the Champions League. This year’s final isa t the Santiago Bernabeu and it’s a great opportunity for us. Winning the Champions League was the greatest experience of my career and we don’t want to let this opportunity slip through our fingers.”“All this club talks about is Champions League, Champions League, Champions League, but we shouldn’t because it puts a lot of pressure on the players. It is better to continue doing what we are doing, which is winning games. Good things will happen, but the players don’t need any added pressure. Madrid needs to focus on winning the Champions League and La Liga, but it depends on other factors like luck, the draw… But I think we are going to win.”
“Olympique Lyonnais is our next opponent. We cannot underestimate our adversaries if we want to do well. Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester are great teams, but they will come at a later date if we qualify. If and when that happens, every team will be difficult.”
“In the New Year I wish lots of health for the whole world, which really is what matters the most. On a personal level I hope I do not get hurt any more and on a team level I would like to win the Champions League and La Liga.”

World Cup:
“Brazil is an incredible team, but I would like to play Spain because it would mean that we have beaten Brazil and Ivory Coast. Spain is one of the favorites to win the World Cup.” 2010:

We need to believe that you can become the best and strive to do |
Yesterday, Ronaldo was one of the main characters take stock of the ceremony, FIFA in Zurich, but today he was in Tashkent. Yesterday, he was recognized as the author of the most beautiful goals in 2009, and today he spoke with Uzbek journalists. It was in the conference hall of the stadium "Fire".
Remember that the most beautiful naked 2009 FIFA recognized the ball Ronaldo scored April 15 at the 6-minute match FC Porto - Manchester United, hit about 30 meters. And in the survey, determine the best footballer the world FIFA midfielder "Real" took second place behind Leonel Messi.

And today, he answered questions from journalists in Tashkent:
What is the main purpose of your visit to Uzbekistan?
I found out that Uzbekistan has adopted and has a "support program for young players" initiated "by the Foundation of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan, I would like to contribute to bringing this project to life. I know a little about Uzbek football, I told him about my former coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.Just yesterday you were in Switzerland, and today - this time in Tashkent. For you a busy schedule of normal business?
I am glad that today I met with you. Yes, my fleeting visit, but I'm over this short time I will give every effort to fulfill his professional duty. I think that more will come to Tashkent, and this time I'll stay here longer.Have you ever been invited to the Turkish clubs? (asked by a journalist of the Turkish Information Agency "Jahon")
No, so I can not say anything about it. In Uzbekistan, the recent master classes are held one after another. Whom would you recommend to be invited to the next master-class?
I can not recommend to anyone, all the stars of football - my friends. But I can definitely say that today I will demonstrate the most beautiful ways of its arsenal. A main objective of such demonstration exercises - to show that everyfootball player must believe that he may be the best and strive for this. This should be the motto of every young football player. You are constantly in the center of world attention obschestvennsti. Hence the question arose: Do you consider yourself primarily a professional soccer player, or more famous thanks to your image?
Of course, first of all, I - a professional footballer, and would like the world to know me only through football. There are rumors that you allegedly received proposals from Russia, in particular from Moscow Dynamo ...
I reported this do not know, but I can tell you that in football anything can not say in advance. You never know what awaits you in the future. How do you view the fact that in the future to open a training center for young footballers?
I am a supporter of this. When there is time, I participated in events for young players. Here's a lull in the championship of Spain, and I took the opportunity to come to Tashkent and met there with local talentedfootball players.Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Cristiano full of praise for Messi |
Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid last summer and has immediately developed into an important first team member at Los Blancos. However, the tricky attacker expects Barcelona star Lionel Messi to scoop up the FIFAPlayer of the Year award.
"It will be a feeling of great happiness if I win the trophy again. Everybody knows how important and big this award is. I felt privileged when I won itlast year and I’m sure this year's winner will be delighted," said Ronaldo on a press conference.
The attacker also spoke about the way things are going at Manchester United this season and made it clear that they're doing good without him.
"I think Manchester United do very well without me. They lost their last two games, but still sit second in the league. I don’t want to say anything about what the people say about me not being there. I miss Manchester a bit and I have lots of friend there, but I’m at Madrid now and enjoy being there.
Ronaldo was full of praise for Club World Champions Barcelona and emphasized that the Catalan side have been in superb form last year. However, the Portuguese is keen to repeat Barca's heroics with Real Madrid.
"I believe success peaks for itself. Barcelona have won everything, they’re the best club at the moment. They have a certain style of play and most of their players have played together for many years. They’re an outstanding team. Nevertheless, everything is possible in football and we’ll do our utmost to win the league and Champions League this term with Real Madrid."
"Lionel Messi has played very well and is an important player for Barcelona. He will probably win the award, but Xavi and Iniesta are also important for Barca and deserve to win thePlayer of the Year trophy as well. It’s the team that wins prizes, not individual players. Barcelona have won six prizes and are a great team.
"Everybody gets what he deserves and I'm not jealous at Lionel. I’d like to command him for what he’s done and I’d like to command the other nominated players as well."
The former Sporting CP starlet finally discussed the upcoming 2010 World Cup and stated that England will be a force to be reckoned with in South Africa.
"England have a fantastic team with some fantastic players. They were great during the qualification campaign and have a superb coach. They have to potential to go far in South Africa. Spain and Brazil also have a big chance to become World Champions.
"Portugal are not among the favourites, but we can always surprise. Nobody expected Greece to come out on top in 2004 and they managed to shock the entire football world. I'm looking forward to the tournament and want to show what we can in South Africa."

The failure on the Camp Nou did not stopped me from sleeping |
Together with Alejandro Sanz, smiling and relaxed, Cristiano Ronaldo transfer to the press room welcomes the AS award he had just received. And journalists took to obtain their first statements on the classic on Sunday. The first question was directly on the ruling that would have put Madrid ahead on the scoreboard and that has not lost any sleep: “The truth is that I’ve slept well every day. These are things of football. I tried it and did not come out.”It was a good match. We had many chances and not score. Now there is no regret, but lift your head and work to win the next matches,” he continued.
He also referred to tomorrow’s World Cup draw, which could match to Portugal and Spain: “Our goal was to reach South Africa and we succeeded. In Spain I would not find him soon. Best in the end, what would be a dream. It will be a tournament complicated, but we will be prepared and then will be what God wants.
Regarding the laser used to annoy a fan in the Nou Camp, said: “Before launching I noticed the lack of light in his eyes, but tried to concentrate. I know it’s dangerous. Fortunately, I’m fine.” There were also moments for humor when a reporter asked if he would be a model for underwear line which will launch the Real Madrid: “No way. I’ve posed for Armani.”

"Those who are ambitious must always believe they are the favourites to win" |
Cristiano Ronaldo talked to the media two days before his first match against Barcelona as a Real Madrid player.
Do you feel ready to be a starter at Camp Nou?
I think it's normal for me not to be in optimum form right now. I just want to help the team. What have you been told of last season's Clasico at the Bernabeu?
I don't like to talk about the past. I don't care what happened because I wasn't there. I'm concerned about the present. I hope we can defeat Barcelona.Pellegrini's opening speech today was longer than usual.
That's because he said everything outdoors today. He usually talks to us inside too. It has nothing to do with the fact that we're about to face Barcelona.Does the leadership make you favourites to win the match?
I always think there are no favourites. Those who are ambitious must always believe they are the favourites to win. We have great respect for our opponent, but we shouldn't be afraid of them. They are a great team, but I don't believe either of us is the favourite to win.Do you think the team depends on you?
We are leaders in the two most important competitions, so I don't think the team depends on me at all. We are doing well and scoring goals. I'd like to help.Does the fact that the crowd will be against you motivate you even more?
I'm used to that. It was the case for me at every English stadium after Portugal eliminated England from the 2006 World Cup, but I nevertheless ended up becoming the best player in the Premiership. I'm just concerened about playing well on Sunday and about helping the team. I think we can win with or without me.Are you anxious to play a game like the Clasico?
I'm always anxious; it has nothing to do with the fact that we'll play against Barcelona. I am ambitious. Every player wants to take part in a Clasico. What do Real Madrid need to do to win?
We'll have to play well and score more goals than Barcelona. What do you regard as playing well?
We shouldn't be scared of playing against Barcelona. We'll have to play as we always do. Barcelona won't attack us in the same way they attack their other opponents and they will also defend themselves more. I want us to play well, to keep possession and to have chances on goal.Would you like Messi to play?
Great footballers should always play if they can. I don't know if he's going to play, but Barcelona didn't use Messi and Ibrahimovic the other day and they nevertheless performed very well. The team has a good system in which every footballer plays well. Messi has unusual quality, but every man on that squad is very good. It will be a difficult match with or without Messi. What do you think of your personal fight to be the best player in the world?
I'm not worried about that. I just want to win.Do you enjoy Real Madrid's style?
I do. I'm relaxed after we win and I sleep very well. The important thing is to win and it's even better when we do so by playing well. Why does everyone say Barcelona play better?
Because they do, but can't be doing that badly when you look at the run we are having. How many goals would you like to score on Sunday?
Ten, twenty... I don't know if it will be possible though. Is the match similar to a Manchester United-Liverpool clash?
Classic encounters are similar in every country because fans love them. They are always special. People have the same passion for them. How will you prepare for the match?
I always do the same regardless of the opponent. It will be a special encounter because we'll have the chance of distancing ourselves further from them on the table. It will be difficult, but we'll try to win.Your team went through some dire straits while you were injured...
You can't win anything without experiencing difficulties. You have to work hard in life in order to achieve something and that is just what we are doing. Our style isn't brilliant, but we are earning the results we want. We are leaders in La Liga and in the Champions League. We will improve. We must be humble and realise we can always do better.Do you feel like you've got unfinished business with Barcelona for losing against them in the Champions League final?
I've only got unfinished business regarding bills from the water and electric companies... Barcelona play well, but what happened then is now in the past. I'm at a new club now and we have a winning mentality.Doesn't a winner like yourself ever think about the past?
It happened a long time ago. I have to think about the present and the future. The past is useful to learrn from, but we must always look ahead. We will try to do our best and win. I have no unfinished business with Barcelona. Is the squad determined to show the world you can play better than Barcelona?
This isn't a Champions League final. It is a regular game worth three points against a good opponent. What if we win on Sunday and lose our next clash? Victory would be pointless then. We have to be regular. It will be hard, I know, and we will face a strong opponent too.Do you connect well with Benzema?
Very well, but I don't know if I'm going to play yet. I connect well with everyone; Raul, Benzema, Higuain...The crowd slightly whistled and booed at the team on Wednesday...
It had nothing to do with our performance. We were winning. I'm sure we'll improve.Whom would you rather sign from Barcelona, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi...
None, but they are all very good.Tuesday, November 17, 2009

This week I'll do a test to see if I'm ready |
The first question is required. How’s your ankle?
The truth is that I feel great. This week I will do a test to know if I am flat, but the recovery is going very good.
Are you well enough to play next Saturday against Racing?
The most important thing for me is to return when one hundred percent. We’ll see what happens.
In the medical report offered by Real Madrid, after reviewing what happened in Amsterdam two weeks ago, you stated that next Wednesday you would go back to the office of Dr. Van Dijk. Does this initial approach is maintained?
For the moment I do not know. The club’s medical services are going to agree with Dr. Van Dijk. Today or tomorrow they will take the decision and then I abide by what they agree.
Last Saturday you have been seen nervously witnessing the meeting of the selection of Portugal. Are you more nervous playing or when in the stands?
Certainly, when I’m off the field. It is very hard to see my pals down there from the stands and not being able to help. I feel a sense of powerlessness and emotions are really very different from what you have in your lawn. I must admit I suffered a lot watching the game in Portugal.
Finally. What do you think of the criticism that Pellegrini is receiving after removal of the Cup?
Players we’re not involved in that. I said I’m very happy with the coach and I am sure he will take this forward.
Madridistas are already thinking about the 29 November match against Barça at Camp Nou. Will Real Madrid be capable of defeating them there?
Do you believe the outcome in the Clasico could influence the rest of the season?
It won’t be a decisive match for neither team, but it is obviously important for us to earn a victory at Camp Nou.

Money hasn't changed my character |
Cristiano Ronaldo, whose ankle injury will keep him out of Portugal’s World Cup play-off with Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday, has given a fascinating insight into his career.
The £80million forward says Manchester United will do just fine without him, though he is glad to leave behind Chelsea nemesis Ashley Cole and the Premier League hatchet men who kicked him.
Sportsmail selects extracts from his interview with Russian newspaper Sport Express to promote the Castrol Rankings of the world’s best footballers.

Sportsmail selects extracts from his interview with Russian newspaper Sport Express to promote the Castrol Rankings of the world’s best footballers.
On his toughest opponent and Premier League brutality…
‘Ashley Cole. He’s a very tough, tenacious football player. And others don’t miss an opportunity.‘In England players are constantly tackling. Everyone tries to kick you. But if you’re in good physical shape and quick enough, then you can dodge it.’There are more injuries, blows, tackles and players are more physical. In general, it’s much more of a battle (in England). Referees don’t protect players as much and aren’t always whistling for fouls.
‘All the same, I still like the English league. That and the Spanish league are the best two national championships in the world.
On United post-Ronaldo…
‘Manchester, without me, are still a great team and always among the leaders. Now they have got through their Champions League group as leaders.‘United don’t depend on big-name players.’
On differences between Manchester and Madrid…
‘I live in a quiet area in Madrid where nothing much happens.‘Football is the same, as is the attention from the press and from fans. I like it.
‘The fans are different here (Madrid). At Real, psychological pressure on the players is much more serious than at United. This is good. At many clubs you don’t know the consequence of playing badly.
‘At big clubs, the pressure from the fans is colossal, and Real Madrid are first on the list of big clubs.’
On whether he’s worth £80m…
‘I think even more (he laughs). But the money hasn’t changed my character or the way I play.’On Wayne Rooney…
‘He’s a great footballer who has been playing in one of the strongest leagues in Europe, so of course he would be able to play in Spain.‘In the last few years he has shown his level and I believe that in Spain he would show the same quality.
‘We still talk on the phone from time to time, but we don’t talk about him coming to Real.
‘I think it’s better that he stays at United. Rooney is an Englishman and he likes Manchester. The city and the club suit him.
On his change of position…
‘I acted as a winger for many years, now I’m getting used to a central role. Yes, it’s unusual for me and for others. I’m very happy to be in this team.On what football means to him…
‘First, it is my life. Second, it is a job that I love. Without football, my life is worth nothing.‘I want to consistently play well and win titles. I’m only at the beginning. My dream is to win titles again, as I did playing for Manchester United.
‘I have practically no private life. I’m already used to this and ready for it. Yes, sometimes it is hard, but it is the choice I made.’
On Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini and their troubles…
‘Any controversy is only people’s opinions. I don’t think the players should be involved in discussing this. The players must work.‘I’m sure that in the near future we will do better. Give us half a year and you will see a great team.’
On Portugal…
‘We must face the truth. I try to do all that I can, both for club and country, and try to ignore what people say, even the most caustic comments.‘But some things are impossible. Of course, to win the World Cup is a unique feeling for every player. It is a dream.
‘The problem is that we have a very good team, but not fantastic. No matter what I do, one person can’t win such a title.’
On his country’s World Cup qualification struggle…
‘Well, we are not alone in this. France and Argentina also had difficulty. It suggests that to get to the World Cup is very difficult.‘It was the same with England two years ago when they stayed at home and didn’t go to the European Championship.
‘Now we have two very important matches (against Bosnia-Herzegovina), which we must win because it is Portugal’s obligation to be in South Africa. I’m going to be there. I’m only thinking of this. Believe me, we will be there.’
On his father…
‘When you lose a person you love so much, surviving the loss is difficult.‘It happened four years ago and now I am much stronger. I try to carry on and to care more for my family, who I always miss.’
On his critics…
‘Anyone who likes football, loves me.’Thursday, November 12, 2009

I'm not Real Madrid's "saviour" |
Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed any suggestion that struggling Real Madrid are dependent on him, insisting that he alone is not the team's "saviour''.
Ronaldo enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, netting nine times to help Madrid win their opening seven Primera Division and Champions League games, but he then picked up an ankle injury in the match against Marseille in September that has kept him sidelined for the last five matches.
Ronaldo enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, netting nine times to help Madrid win their opening seven Primera Division and Champions League games, but he then picked up an ankle injury in the match against Marseille in September that has kept him sidelined for the last five matches.
In those games, Madrid have suffered three defeats, winning just once, and on Tuesday were humiliated 4-0 by third tier side Alcorcon in the first leg of their Copa del Rey last 32 tie.
Those statistics suggest Ronaldo's absence is being heavily felt by the Spanish giants, but the £80 million man insists Madrid are no one-man side.
"We're not going through a great moment but neither am I the saviour,'' said Ronaldo. "A team is influenced by many and not only one player. I'm eager to play and help my team-mates. I'm convinced that things are going to improve.
"Disasters like the one in Alcorcon have always happened in football, there's no need to go overboard. It's gone, we lost. No-one is happy, no-one expected it, the team didn't play well, but the world doesn't end because Madrid lost 4-0. We have to lift ourselves and learn from the defeat. The changing room was very sad after the loss, but little by little the atmosphere is improving.''
Madrid's embarrassment against Alcorcon and their current poor form has heaped pressure on coach Manuel Pellegrini, with sections of the Spanish media suggesting the Chilean could be sacked if the team do not beat Getafe this weekend and AC Milan in the Champions League next week.
When asked about Pellegrini, Ronaldo said in quotes reported by Marca: "I'm happy and when you are happy there is no need to change or talk of others. We have to talk about those who are here, not those who could come.''
Ronaldo, who will also sit out the Getafe and Milan matches, faces another test on his injured ankle next week to see if he might be able to return for the derby with Atletico Madrid or the second leg against Alcorcon.
The former Manchester United man also has international commitments to think about, with Portugal facing Bosnia-Herzegovina in their World Cup play-off next month.
"I would like to play the return leg against Alcorcon, but I have to be 100% ready, both physically and mentally,'' added Ronaldo. "Next week I will have a new test and I want to play first with Real Madrid and afterwards with Portugal.''

Evra: "Cristiano arrogant? It is the best person I knew" |
Patrice Evra insists the image of former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo portrayed by the media is far different than the player he knew.
The defender played alongside the Portuguese winger for three-and-a half years at Old Trafford before Ronaldo switched to Real Madrid for a record £80million in the summer.
Despite being recognised as one of the world's leading footballers many perceive the 24-year-old to be arrogant and moody.
However Evra states that could not be further from the truth and describes the Fifa World Player of the Year as a 'good guy'.
"He's not arrogant," Evra said. "He suffers as a result of his image as a fashion guy but honestly, he's the greatest professional I have ever trained with.

"He never has enough of it. This lad has to be the first everywhere in everything. If you play ping pong with him he can't stand losing.
"And in life, he's really a good guy. He's calm, he loves joking around, he really likes teasing people. In fact he's a bit like (David) Beckham.
"He's driven. They don't give themselves the right to make mistakes."
Evra even went on to point out that Ronaldo does not dive but did admit that the United players poked fun at the forward for his theatrical responses to being fouled.
"There has also been a lot of fouls against him which were never given because of his reputation," he added.
"When you look at the tackles he gets each game, well quite frankly the lad has reason to dive, if not he would break himself.
"After okay, he reacts badly. We also used to tease him."
The France international also highlighted that all the individual awards Ronaldo received towards the end of his stay with the Red Devils only had a positive effect on his personality.
"Yes he changed," he admitted. "At the end he had even more hunger, trained even more, because he needed to be the best.
"I don't know how he will act at Real. At United no-one plays the star. When you're with people such as Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes, legends of this club, you can't. It's impossible."
