Bruno Alves and Hugo Almeida scored first-half goals Saturday to lead Portugal over 10-man Azerbaijan 2-0 in a European Championship qualifying match.
After three consecutive draws, Portugal won and improved to 20 points from 11 matches in Group A. Alves put the visitors in the lead by scoring off a corner kick in the 12th minute. Almeida made it 2-0 seconds before halftime.
Azerbaijan was reduced to 10 men after Aslan Kerimov elbowed Cristiano Ronaldo into the face in the 27th minute. Portugal outshot the hosts 21-4, including 10 on target. Read more...
