Cristiano Ronaldo, the man who wrote yet another chapter in the history books of football, was delighted with Manchester United's sublime display. The Portuguese chipped in with a couple of goals - and a number of moves that laft the Roma defence in tatters - as the Red Devils ran out 7-1 winners.

"Every player is very confident," said Ronaldo. "They have a lot of belief in themselves. We lost in Rome but everyone still believed we would get through."

"It is an unbelievable result. To win 7-1 against Roma in a quarter-final is just great. It is amazing for the players and the club, but now we need to think about the semi-final."

Manchester United are still in line for a repeat of the historic treble of 1999, with two semi-finals lined up, and a three point lead in the Premiership.

Ronaldo had no preferences over which team United face in the semi-finals: "I really have no preference for who we get now. This is the Champions League. It will be tough game no matter who we play next."
